My name is Lizzy, owner and founder of Simply Mum Creations. I am a proud Texan Native and love my South Texas roots. When I say South TX, I really mean Deep South Texas. This girl cannot function without her raspas (snow cone), tacos, STARS burger, or elote (corn) with mayo and chile, all found in the Rio Grande Valley. I began creating mums in the fall of 2013 for my neighbors' friend and coincidentally family friend whom made the varsity cheer squad. He wanted to not only showcase her school spirit, but present her with a mum as a nod to their years of friendship. Evidently, I came to post my first "mum" on my personal Instagram and started getting requests for the following year. I grew slowly through the platform and word of mouth. Every year I would research and look for videos in VAIN to further grow as a mum maker as I TRULY loved the yearly Texas Tradition.
In the Spring of 2019, I lost my father. This was by far the hardest moment in my life. I prayed fervently for peace of heart as I knew without God at the center of my life, there would be no fruition. I had contemplated leaving this craft behind me as I did not have the heart to continue crafting. However, as I was outside in the garden one day, I remembered my father telling me,
"You have a good eye with these mums. You're really talented, if you really like what you are doing, you should make this into a business."
I ran with these words my father gave me and began researching again. I found a group of ladies by chance on the internet as I NEEDED to be better. With open arms they welcomed me into their organization that elevates, encourages, grows, and understands that the more glitter the better! I am beyond grateful to these women as this became my creative outlet once more and helped keep my mind busy during this difficult time.
There is one mum I always showcase, I am exceedingly proud of it because the growth I saw within the mere two months that I had joined the group is encased in that one mum. Adding, that mum was truly the stepping stone to what you now know as Simply Mums, without the trust of Mrs. M. Vega I would not have catapulted to where I am now, little did she know she was my blessing sent from God. Her mum would lead me to meet Mrs. R. Platas another Senior Mega White and Silver mum for PSJA, and those two would open doors for Mrs. C. Torres a few weeks later for her Edinburg Bobcat cheerleader. Thus my relationship with Edinburg and PSJA would unknowingly begin. Both Mrs. Platas and Mrs. Torress's respective mums would help push me to not only challenge myself, but lead me to create truly customized mums, distinguishable in their unique detailed work. Together Mrs. Vega, Platas, and Torres daughters mums' are the most requested to this day amongst seniors as they are what you now know as the Simply Mega.

The opportunity the mothers of 2019 gave me will be something I will always carry in my heart. I have been given a great honor to create a memory for each student and I cannot help but smile to my face as we have all been in their shoes, walking the halls of our respective alma maters with pride as we physically embody our school spirit with our braids, bells, and flowers on our chest. As my fingers eloquently braid ribbons for the next generation of students, I am taken back to a simpler time when I was young and my mother would make my homecoming mums. She taught me, and now she helps me behind the scenes with the cutting of my ribbon and supports me in every way possible that she can. From the bottom of my heart I am grateful to all my current and future customers for entrusting me in creating your perfect mum.
Homage to the 2019 Trio
The girls from the class of 2020 are the reason I am here today. Being able to say PSJA and Edinburg HS are neck and neck each year would have left me baffled when I first began this crazy endeavor. You each will always be the defining pillars of my beginnings.
